Games Venues and Projects
The Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games (GC2018) events will be hosted across 18 world-class facilities located on the Gold Coast and in Brisbane, Cairns and Townsville. In preparation for GC2018, the Queensland Government delivered three new competition venues and undertook major upgrades to a further seven facilities that provide important sport and community facilities for Queensland.
The $320 million GC2018 sporting infrastructure program was funded by the Queensland and Australian Governments.
In addition to the venue infrastructure, the legacy program has funded minor capital works in the form of Public Domain Improvement Projects (PDIPs) to deliver a range of long-lasting benefits to the community, as well as ensuring the best possible experience for visitors during GC2018.
The success of both the programs of work has been achieved because the Queensland Government has undertaken detailed planning with key stakeholders and user groups to identify the best possible sport and community infrastructure outcomes for Queenslanders, with new and upgraded competition venues, in addition to public improvement works, all planned to be completed well before the Games.
