Townsville Outdoor Gym
The Strand foreshore park has been part of Townsville’s history since the city was founded in 1864. The installation of new multi-fitness equipment along the Strand promenade, adjacent to the Strand Kiosk and Pier provides an opportunity for the local community and visitors alike to undertake exercise while enjoying the foreshore park and extensive walking tracks that span the length of the promenade.
The fitness station clusters contribute to delivering a healthier and active lifestyle for the Townsville local community and visitors. The project is a fitting and lasting legacy that not only recognises the GC2018, continues to be a benefit long after the close of the Games.
The Public Domain Improvement Program (PDIP) funds minor capital works to deliver a range of long lasting benefits to the community as well as ensuring the best possible experience for visitors during the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games (GC2018).
The Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games will transform the Gold Coast and Queensland by creating benefits for our communities before, during and after the 11 days of competition. These are the benefits that this initiative will bring to Queenslanders both within the Gold Coast and across our state:
