Festival 2018 Event Cities
Gold Coast was the Host City for GC2018, but the Games action was spread across four cities. Brisbane, Townsville and Cairns.
A key element of the Games was Festival 2018 – a bold, aspirational program that featured a wide range of creative activities and events to generate a festival atmosphere in the Host and Event Cities during Games time.
Festival 2018 included live events, performances by local and international artists, hands-on events for kids and families and major public art commissions.
In Brisbane, the Festival 2018 program included the inaugural Women of the World: Celebrating the Women of the Commonwealth Festival (WOW at Festival 2018) and the One Million Stars public art installation.
WOW at Festival 2018 was three days of events, activities, talks, performances and more, that celebrate the achievement of women and girls.
The One Million Stars installation made a peaceful and inspirational statement in King George Square by featuring stars contributed from people all over the world.
Festival 2018 was complemented by a special edition of the Griffith Review, partnering with Griffith University, which aimed to explore the past and the future of the Commonwealth.
From major public art commissions to collaborations with performers and artists from across the Commonwealth, from live events to hands-on arts activities, Festival 2018 was something for everyone.
The Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games will transform the Gold Coast and Queensland by creating benefits for our communities before, during and after the 11 days of competition. These are the benefits that this initiative will bring to Queenslanders both within the Gold Coast and across our state:
GC2018 will celebrate creative talent and culturally diverse communities throughout Queensland.
- Each festival will provide programs reflective of our diverse communities with events and activities that celebrate the unique characteristics of our heritage and creative endeavours.
