A transformative trade legacy for Queensland
With its beautiful sub-tropical climate and proximity to global markets, Queensland offers visitors and investors unique opportunities. The Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games (GC2018) will be a catalyst for transformative change that will bring economic benefits beyond Queensland to across the Commonwealth.
Major sporting events are increasingly recognised as an impetus for promoting international trade and investment. In Glasgow, Scotland House came to life as the central location to mix sport with business. The Scottish Government estimated more than 1000 leading national and international business leaders attended Scotland House during the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.
Queensland, through hosting the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games, is positioned to have similar success in its beachfront trade and investment equivalent, Commonwealth House.
The state’s already solid trading relationship with Commonwealth countries has potential for further growth and the GC2018 Trade and Investment Program, Trade 2018, provides the perfect opportunity for government and business leaders around the world to come together.
The Queensland Government in partnership with the City of Gold Coast has developed Trade 2018 as the trade and investment program for GC2018.
Trade 2018 is working with Commonwealth organisations to ensure activities strengthen broader Commonwealth trade ties, and boost Queensland’s business profile.
The program launched in March 2017 and has since been showcased in seven Commonwealth countries in line with the journey of the Queen’s Baton Relay. In each market, Trade 2018 engaged with key government and business leaders, highlighting opportunities and encouraging visitation to Queensland in the lead-up to, during and after The Games.
With a resilient and diverse economy, solid growth forecast, highly skilled workforce and a strategic Asia-Pacific location, the investment opportunities in Queensland are unparalleled. Trade 2018 is opening the doorway for Commonwealth countries to connect and do business.
From 3–16 April, Trade 2018 will culminate with the comprehensive Games Time Trade and Investment Program on the Gold Coast and in the event cities of Brisbane, Cairns and Townsville.
Including a tailored program of forums, formal events, business matching and site visits, the program will centre around Commonwealth House – an exclusive venue to establish strong international partnerships, explore investment opportunities and develop new global value chains across the Commonwealth.
