WOW at Festival 2018 and Equal Pay Day

On International Equal Pay Day WOW at Festival 2018 is highlighting its collective vision for gender equality in the lead up to next year’s Commonwealth Games.

Since its launch by London’s Southbank Centre in 2011, WOW has become a globally recognised event holding 20 festivals across five continents. Next year’s WOW at Festival 2018 will be a three-day festival at the Brisbane Powerhouse from Friday 6 April – Sunday 8 April 2018 and is an important part of the Festival 2018 celebrations coinciding with GC2018.

Louise Martin CBE, President, Commonwealth Games Federation said

"I am thrilled that the first-ever WOW Commonwealth will take place as part of the Gold Coast 2018’s Festival program and hope it is the first of many WOWs to celebrate, challenge and contribute to the Commonwealth Games and its host cities and nations in the future. Through WOW’s dynamic and inclusive leadership, linking in with the world’s largest celebration of today’s modern, diverse Commonwealth, we’ll take even greater steps towards our collective vision for gender equality and a level playing field for women and men when we meet on the Gold Coast next year.”

Did you know the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games will be the first in the history of a major multi-sport Games to have an equal number of men and women’s medal events?
