Be Games Ready
The Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games (GC2018) turned a spotlight on Queensland, with sporting, arts, culture and celebration events delivered across the state.
It is projected that billions of dollars were injected into the economy ($2 billion GSP uplift, $2.6 billion of additional government and private sector investment). More than 1.2 million tickets were sold across the Games, which supported more than 30,000 full-time, part time and temporary jobs. GC2018 is expected to generate $488 million in additional foreign exports and foreign direct investment over the four years post Games; creating a lasting economic benefit for Queensland businesses and the economy.
The Embracing2018 Legacy Program delivered a range of initiatives to support small business in the lead up to GC2018. The Be Games Ready program helped Queensland businesses to plan and prepare so they could embrace the opportunities. Support included the delivery of business workshops and mentoring programs.
Many businesses across Queensland took advantage of Be Games Ready opportunities and participated in face-to-face workshops and business mentoring sessions, which supported small businesses to leverage opportunities before, during, and after the Games as part of the Be Games Ready Program.
The Be Games Ready program was been developed as part of the Advancing Small Business Queensland Strategy 2016–20 and the Embracing 2018 Legacy Program for GC2018.
